AI and developer don’t belong in the same sentence
Aren’t most of the people that are ‘stuck’ on Adobe stuck because they have a workflow that involves eg. full support for high-end digital cameras, asset management stuff like Bridge, full colour-matching support for high-end printing systems; and having it all work together well enough that it can reliably power media businesses from small to large? That’s usually the functionality gaps that are not well-served by open-source alternatives, and what’s allowing Adobe to price gouge and push unwelcome licenses through.
The issue is not that we don’t have enough half-baked clones of the Photoshop UI where only half the buttons work. That kind of completely misunderstands why businesses are stuck on Adobe.
Misunderstanding stuff that anyone in the field takes as obvious is kinda the default for slop coders.
they are this decade’s “hey, I have an idea for an app” people
Same people, but now they have a thing that allows them to only have an idea and not any skills related to turning their idea into an actual app.
hey at least they’re containing it over in a weird project instead of submitting ai code to gimp
Honestly not sure I prefer this era of “I create a custom fork of every tool I can imagine instead of Google searching for existing FOSS”
I absolutely dont. It has made finding actual good projects so much more difficult.
I hate AI slop, but I think I might hate Adobe more
¿Porque no los dos?
It is both. Just one is more.
So now we get to see how AI holds up against the patent system, which doesn’t care who wrote what.
I honestly see this copyright failure to kind of mark a massive decline in the US. Not that I loved the copyright system, but they protected patents and intellectual property like crazy and now they gave up.
We’re the kind of country where I wouldn’t be surprised to see people selling bootleg movies and games on the street for a quick buck. It’s a symptom of a failing economy and bureaucracy that won’t regulate anything.
they protected patents and intellectual property like crazy and now they gave up.
I don’t think this is true, lawsuits just take a long time. And I wish this was true, at least for software patents. Those should NOT exist.
UI and feel wise, its good. Actually its shit most of the features are broken or half work. I cross my fingers it gets good and adobe tries to take action.
I’ve been using Darktable and GIMP for my entirely free workflow with RAW images. I enjoy the tinkering. Will watch this with interest.
‘Software’ won’t be over, but reverse-engineering of EXPENSIVE programs is bound to affect how many get developed & sold!
It’s still slop, but potentially being used for good for once.
Software as a Slop
Slop as a Service?
