You’re a married male. People who are in their late teens/early 20’s are looking for life advice and people to emulate.
Man it’s like the majority of people here don’t have ‘regular guy’ friends.
The way to get to regular dudes, is to make them feel fucking included. Yes, diversity is fucking awesome. Yes, having women in leadership roles is fucking awesome. But for your average guy… who do they have to look up to on the left side of things? In the news? In congress? Who is on the national stage for these things? Who is talking to those people?
There isn’t anyone. There are tons of people talking to other groups of people, but there has been flat out no courting of the white dude demographic outside of White Dudes for Harris (which was brilliant but came too late).
Speak to the issues these guys are facing. Talk about dating. Talk about career struggles. Talk about feeling alone, and feeling vulnerable. And then, talk about solution based problem-solving for these things.
Why do you think the right wing latched onto guys who do the whole personal betterment thing? It’s the same shit that white supremacist groups do. They’ll get you with things that anyone can agree with like ‘Hey man if you work hard you’ll succeed. I fucking believe in you when no one else will.’ Then they go into the right wing bullshit because now they have you at an emotional level.
There is no online left presence doing these things, and there are multiple right wing people doing this shit.
Make a left wing Joe Rogan, and bro-dudes will watch that shit like shit on velcro. But it has to be a dude-bro talking to them. It can’t be Rachel Maddow or AOC, it has to be someone who comes from that background.
It’s just a saying, not actual strategy my guy.
In chess the pawns get sacrificed. That’s how all armed conflict goes, man.
Fully agreed.
They’re retched people.
Southern Baptists are one step better than Al Queda in my mind. They should be outlawed as an extremist group.
Interesting parallel! I’m not super versed on the middle ages/medieval history. I love the concept of learning more about it but for me finding the time to properly do so just isn’t there.
I also miss like… college style lectures on those kind of topics. I should just squat some history classes at the universities by me.
Sure, pointing at streets. Your normal not super cheap FPV has a range of like a mile. Even adjacent to an urban center you could find places to launch a drone and send it to do evil shit and not be spotted.
You wouldn’t even need something that big, man.
I was in college during GWOT and part of the political science club. We had a ‘games theory’ session with the DHS rep in our state, where part of the class was reps for the government and part were a terrorist cell.
I was part of the latter, and our goal was ‘disrupt the state’ and half the people wanted a big 9-11 attack to happen. My suggestion was small teams and car bombs over the course of 3 days along the major highways in the state and intra city traffic would grind to a halt. That was what kept him up at night.
The same thing could be done at an even more effective scale with FPVs hypothetically.
I think that’s a bit far fetched. You don’t need to have something fly from Tripoli to hit the US, just send operatives here, and have them launch the attacks from the US. You could be a mile away and never get caught, hypothetically speaking.
I still think US doctrine from GW1 applies, simply because drone use is already being implemented into the current chain of command. I have a few friends that are on the RnD side of things and the non classified drone stuff they’ve talked about to me is exceptionally impressive, and augments current doctrine rather than upending it.
Current US doctrine relies on controlling the skies. Still right now there’s no credible threat to US air dominance. If the US has air dominance, drones in their current form are a bug attacking a tractor. Look up videos on how the US air campaign worked during Gulf War 1 and see the sheer number of assets that were on station for months waiting for the order to attack. Any enemy would be utterly exhausted by the time any attack started and the force and speed of violence would keep drones down to local threats.
That’s also not counting any drone countermeasures the US currently has and could mass deploy.
I think the US use of expensive drones is just different to what we’re seeing in Ukraine. They’re fitting into a different space than FPV drones, which isn’t bad, it’s just different.
This isn’t true. Tanks role in doctrine has changed. How the US would fight with drones on the field is completely different than how Ukraine or Russia are fighting.
Honestly, I’ve had this conversation with a lot of people!
I think tough love is the answer. People respect an actual honest gut punch.
Tough love with motivation to be better. That’s what I would do. People want to look for something, to hope for something. They want to be part of a ‘thing’ that gives them meaning and a reason to get out of bed in the morning. For a lot of people that is what MAGA is. It’s a brilliant bit of propaganda from a political science perspective.
The thing that the people behind maga forget is that positive always beats negative for people. If the democrats came out with a ‘elbows up’ campaign to drive engagement, inform voters, and have an Obama 08 style organization behind it. Dems would sweep elections left right and center across the country.
The issue, is the democrats shunned technology after that 08 Obama win. Obama built up a massive online apparatus to win the election then the party tossed it aside. The republicans embraced the digital age and have moved their propaganda networks online, and the democrats did nothing to counter it.
There are some things that give the Rs and advantage such as gish gallop and stuff like that, but again, tough love ‘everything that man said is bullshit, your honor’ type discourse wins out. They just don’t want to get their hands dirty, and they don’t want to fund people that do for some reason.
In short, you don’t need to convince people to follow a billion different decrees. You give them a simple branding (Hope from 08. Where do you think all the MAGA merch idea came from? Those Hope shirts), direction, and figureheads.
Branding is easy, for me I’d pick something like Together. Direction? Focus on things people agree on and build out policy from those tentpoles. ‘Family? We all love family. Here’s how we’re helping YOUR family with X policies.’ Figureheads. Dems have TONS of super qualified women that are killing it. We need some fucking white bread dudes like Walz as well to be pushing these things (there are a few they just need more media around them).
From a dev standpoint, if it were me I’d create an app to push these things, make it social for people, and then gamify engagement by making it a ‘game’ to be informed of what’s happening in your area and in the country at large. Getting people informed is not hard and doesn’t take a lot of time, it requires newer styles of outreach that haven’t been done before. At least in my mind!
Thanks for the conversation on this btw, It’s refreshing! <3
You realize people want figureheads to look up to and follow, right?
That’s why trump is so fucking popular with morons. He talks to them, and tells them SOMETHING that they can get behind.
Yes. And who is on the left saying ‘hey you should act this fucking way instead of these douche canoes?’
That’s my point.
Soooo screaming loudly on the internet and doing nothing?
No you mistake my point I’m saying that ‘the left’ doesn’t have as many figurehead people online in those spaces to call out the people like Tate and Miller.
I think Walz can be that guy, seriously.
