On lemmy communities start with ! while users start with @ … but it looks like you used @ to reference the community

As you leave Manhattan the farther away you get the more you will see cars and the less you will see public transportation options. This is an inarguable fact. From the US Census, Staten Island has the highest amount of car ownership, only 16% of households in Staten Island did not have a car in 2021. 37% of Queens households did not have cars, 55% of Brooklyn did not have cars, 59% of the Bronx did not have cars. Maybe I should have said Staten Island and Queens instead of Brooklyn, but almost half the households have cars in Brooklyn.
In Manhattan, 76% of households do not have cars.
Many parts of Queens and Brooklyn are considered “underserved” by public transportation by the city and state governments and it is a very known equity issue in the city. Improvements have been made over the recent years, hopefully we will see the new Interborough Express completed.
Ha, it is definitely a local slang. People in outer boroughs will say “I’m going into the city for the day” if they are going into Manhattan, even though all the boroughs are “New York City” and mostly high density
Actually I live in NYC and often public transportation, especially bikes, are faster to get around Manhattan than car services. Outer boroughs need more infrastructure though. Places like Queens and Brooklyn as you get away from the city become harder to navigate without a car or car service and taxis can be rarer
Anyone saying that is definitely wrong, it is neither more secure or less secure just on the basis that it is closed or open source. There are processes that all types of software must take to ensure there are limited vulnerabilities. Security audits, pen testing, code scanning, etc.

You absolutely don’t need a course to learn it, but sometimes these can be easy shortcuts.

For anyone coming across this, remove seemed to work. Purging clears the “remove” status it looks like and other instances won’t know you removed it and keep federating data to you. At least that’s what it seems like was happening
Nope, I notice it reappear in the community list. If I just remove the community without purge though then the new content stops coming in, so I’ve just left them as removed without purging
It’s okay for very small groups of people in my experience. I use two servers with like ~10 active users in total. We use the server as a way to keep group text-like conversations more organized in different channels based on topic and the added benefit of voice calls and chat bots.
Large communities for it are awful, it becomes an even harder to read Twitch chat in active channels.

I know that Meta is awful for privacy, but being on Lemmy/Mastodon is not exactly private either. Everything you do on here is as public to Meta as Threads is. They can easily pull any data and metrics they’d like from the fediverse, even if instances defederate from them. There are plenty of other reasons to not like Threads but picking Mastodon over Threads because of privacy isn’t exactly changing that situation.
How does reddit tell the difference? Is it just nsfw communities not in the api or all nsfw posts? There is no discrepancy at least in the UI between NSFW gore and NSFW tits.

Both. The text data is in the database of all instances that are federated. Your account credentials are only stored on the instance you’re registered to.
