Pretty sure you can still enable 3 button navigation in settings. I still use it

If it doesn’t have a default one, you can set a custom image in the three dot menu of the shortcut.

There is a certain privacy setting (I think its permanent private browsing mode) that disables images on shortcuts.

Second this, take it slow. As you buy new stuff, include Linux support in your decisions. If you have the option of two PCs, try Linux on one of them and keep a separate music production PC with windows.
