The strategy is to get you onto a different platform to make instant messaging easier. They are just “advertising” on Lemmy.
Once you’re on a chat platform, they will likely attempt the “Romance Baiting” (formerly “Pig Butchering”) scam: make the target fall in love, then persuade them to send money for things like “travel expenses” or “family medical bills”. Also involves buying crypto.
It’s not a good idea to send them pictures of your face. They can use it for identity theft.
That…seems like a language i could learn, and could probably be taught in schools as a second language.
I feel like the only reason we use English as much as we do is tradition. Time to break tradition.
How to avoid getting scammed:
- DO NOT SEND MONEY
- DO NOT ACCEPT MONEY OR CHECKS
- DO NOT GIVE CREDIT CARD DETAILS
- DO NOT OPEN YOUR BANK ACCOUNT WHILE SOMEONE IS CONNECTED TO YOUR DEVICE
- CALL THE INSTITUTION THAT THE OTHER CLAIMS TO BE AND VERIFY THE INFORMATION THEY PROVIDED
- DO NOT PAY FOR SOMETHING YOU KNOW IS STOLEN OR ILLEGAL TO PURCHASE
- BE AWARE OF COMMON SCAM SCRIPTS AND TACTICS
- IF YOU FALL IN LOVE ONLINE, MEET THEM IN PERSON
- DO. NOT. SEND. THEM. MONEY.
They are going to hire private security, with their endless profits.

Lemmy isn’t a UI, it’s just data. Each app that connects to lemmy (not instances in the fediverse, but apps that let you sign into a lemmy account) has their own interface. A person can (and probably has) made an app with a modern interface for lemmy.
We are not confined to a specific app or interface, anyone can interface with Lemmy and present the data in their own way.

The latest GPT does search the internet to generate a response, so it’s currently a middleman to a search engine.
I ask GPT for random junk all the time. If it’s important, I’ll double-check the results. I take any response with a grain of salt, though.

Also 5. I made it to the point i can engineer basically anything, not just “write code”. If only someone would recognize that and hire me.
Grocery bags were banned. Durable “reusable” plastic bags were mandated and we were expected to re-use those bags and return them to the store. The reality is that we use them just like the old bags and just fork over the extra 10 cents for every visit.
This article is claiming the exact same thing, replacing the current “re-usable” bags with more durable “re-usable” bags that we will likely now pay 20 cents for and be expected to re-use them at the store.

The gap between wage and costs isn’t changing.
It’s a Valve Refurbished :D so still under warranty. I ticked off the fan setting mentioned before, just need to stress test it some more to see if that was the fix
