  • Are they barred from veteran’s day and St. Patrick’s Day parades as well, or does the NPS participate in those? How about 4th of July?

Has this always been the case? If not, who was on the board that made the decision and what is their political affiliation?

In a world where half the electorate thinks a judge must be prejudiced and has no problem with their autocratic leader saying that ethnicity decides whether someone is “fair,” I think these are legitimate followup questions.

We needed a de-trumpification of the government. Anyone appointed by Trump or hired by an appointee should have been dismissed. This is basically what Trump is planning on doing.

  • Between the “I have an immune system and I don’t need no mask and covid isn’t real anyway” crowd and the munchausen patients, there’s a lot of people. One reason why “whole body scans” as a diagnostic tool on healthy patients is controversial is that you end up making the patient think they have something that they demand treatment for. In this case, patients will request specific meds or tests based on a marketing campaign specifically designed to sell drugs. Patients don’t need that kind of input, and it’s potentially harmful - not because people want to be sick, but because of the kind of phenomenon that makes WebMD users think they must have cancer.

  • I have a 3p app that still seems to be working. I don’t log in, so I only read occasionally, but I have to say that the number of upvotes seem much higher than when I was using the site. I was a very active user who quit during the exodus (when Apollo went dark), but I don’t remember the number of upvotes being regularly in the thousands to tens of thousands.

It makes me wonder whether they’re artificially boosting traffic ahead of the IPO, to be honest. I mean, if they are, it probably would have leaked by now - but it still feels like it doesn’t line up with the third party traffic reports.

In any case, I think that going public is just going to increase the pressure for monetization, and Spez has already said how much he admires what Elon did with Twitter, so I think we know where it’s heading. It’s really just waiting for a replacement. Whether lemmy can be it or not is yet to be determined, but the enshittification has started and the migration will come as soon as someone drops a couple of billion building a service and app that’s a real substitute for the casual users.

  • I think it’s an interesting idea, and that it could lead you and your party to explore some points of view that you might not otherwise get to really think about.

Your idea is making me think of the Asperger’s community, as that’s the one I have the most familiarity with. Some mage class maybe.

If you want to do it right - that is, really use it as a learning experience - I would say read the bios of people like John von Neumann, Murray Gell-Mann, John Nash, and most especially Paul Erdos. These were some of the most brilliant mathematicians of our time (Murray was the guy who discovered quarks). George Price, too, although that one is pretty sad.

I am going to say that it’s going to make it a burden on your party members, and you should do it with their buy in, not make it part of the plot line that they discover it. If they’re not aware of it as a character trait and if you play it to the extent exhibited by some of those I mentioned, you’re just going to come off as an asshole. It’s really going to make things harder on everyone if you do it right. It’s a spectrum, so some in. The community can end up building self-awareness and develop coming mechanisms, but that wouldn’t be the point of playing that role.
