This person resigned. That’s what the fascists want. They want everyone who disagrees with them to exit the government so they can replace them with loyalists. Her resignation is not some bold act of resistance, it was more of the same, complying in advance.

If a person stays in their position, openly defies the administration, appeals illegal attempts to have her removed, and then is killed that’s when we all need to be pointing out a potential conspiracy.

This person got out of the way for fascists and then died because she was receiving substandard care for a known health condition because Republicans have been allowed to privatize everything at our expense for decades.

She did great work as an US attorney. But she didn’t provide any resistance to the incoming administration. The bulk of meaningful resistance from inside the government has been from federal judges. These federal judges are the only ones would even merit this kind of treatment. They are the ones whose court orders are slowing down this administration.

The Trump administration has already ignored one judge’s order to turn around planes to El Salvador. The Trump administration is trying to appeal to the Supreme Court to get these court orders overturned. If that doesn’t work they will likely ignore them.

In fact, the Trump administration wants to remove universal injunction all together, so the courts will lose a crucial check on the executive branch.

Fascists want us to comply in advance. Democrats, the opposition party, complied in advance. It is well understood that fascists move one step at a time so that they can execute their plans without serious opposition from the people.

So it does matter what Schumer does, because the fascists wanted to move unopposed and he, as minority leader, let them get away with it. My point is that Schumer’s fake concern that the fascists will have more leeway with a shutdown is bunk. The fascists goal was to get congressional approval and they got it for free.

This isn’t about leftist moral purity. Chuck Schumer sided with the fascists on the only recourse we had to meaningfully resist them for the next six months. He betrayed us for billionaires. He add the ability to get results. Instead, he threw away the country for nothing. Billionaires are not our friends. They would happily see us off to the death camps if they could make more money that way. Which is what they are doing right now. We need to have a greater sense of self-preservation than working with someone who is effectively a Republican.

His donors told him to not shut down the government to save their stock value. He doesn’t agree with Republicans. Billionaires have a class interest to increase the value of the shares they own. All the politicians who serve billionaires instead of working class voters are going to vote the same way. The fascists will do what they want either way. They only use laws when it is convenient for them to do so.

What the fascists wanted was to be legitimized by bipartisan support of their bill. They wanted the Democrats to consent in advance. To take the next small step willingly.

Chuck Schumer has handed the country over to the fascists in exchange for nothing because he serves the same billionaires.

There wasn’t a sudden realization from Schumer that flipped his opposition on Wednesday to his support on Thursday. That was his obvious cover to try to hide the billionaires he serves. Don’t fall for it.

Even if our legal system was, that wouldn’t stop a fascist government from using the death penalty to kill its targeted out-groups indiscriminately. Also, the death penalty isn’t a useful tool because it doesn’t fundamentally correct the underlining social and economic conditions that lead to the kind of violence it fails to deter.

Under some subjective moral systems the death penalty aligns with an ideal of justice. However all it does is kill more people. An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind. That is to say, no one learns anything of value from this process and dead people cannot learn. Justice does not demand punishment equal to that of the crime. In other words, justice can be obtained without necessitating us commit the very actions we have deemed to be unacceptable.

We should want to live under a system that is more humane than the criminals it prosecutes. Our punishment for failing to do this will be to be subjugated by our own flawed system and to have no one to blame but ourselves.

This is tragic. We can expect more of this over the next four years at least.

The rule of law means that no one is above the law, not even the president. If the president is above the law then we do not have the rule of law. Being labeled a felon is the idea of a punishment, but since there are no consequences to this sentencing there is no punishment.

At least imposing a fine would have been consistent with precedent. At that point it would have been an issue with our laws being to lenient. That would have been a much more easily remedied problem than doing away with the rule of law, a founding concept of modern western civilization.

The rule of law was dead when the Supreme Court ruled presidents have immunity for core constitutional responsibilities and presumed immunity for official acts in Trump v. United States. This is another nail in the coffin.

If this is the lesson a majority of people learn we will be ruled by fascists for more than the next four years. Refusing to exercise power is self-defeating and will not inspire any revolutions. If we let things get worse they will get worse, because there is no floor to how bad things can get.

The same is pretty much true with my family as well. However thanks to the internet we have access to a larger subset of people than just our families.

It isn’t a system we should want to continue anyway. Immigration should be an opportunity for equality, not indentured servitude.

That’s the thing. It’s not enough to only be against something, although we still need to do that too. We have to be for something. We should definitely pick things we would be happy with too.

Thinking back to school, I had an ethics teacher ask the class what we thought the meaning of life is. The consensus from the class was whatever we believe. Then our teacher asked a follow up, in that case, what do we believe it means. No one had an answer.

We need to decide what we believe is important to us, what we value, and then figure out the most useful strategy to making that reality. We want to dismantle hierarchies, but that means thinking about what our lives would be without those hierarchies.

Right now, people are being told to imagine a world without certain groups of people, on the false promise that the elimination of people will improve their lives. We need to get people to imagine a world without certain classes of people. The elimination of class will give us economic freedom so that we will have the means to improve our lives.

Put a hold on that popcorn. It’s not a civil war. Elon and Trump are in agreement. What’s happening is some MAGA supporters are going through the five stages of grief. They seem to be somewhere around anger and bargaining. Trump conned his supporters like he conned his employees before them. Now Trump supporters are working their way to accepting Trump was always going to enrich himself and billionaires at their expense.

Now would be a good time to start pulling people away from MAGA. People need an alternative. Taking the wealth of billionaires as well as the source of their wealth would be a good start. Not to mention systemic change to our government’s institutions.

Biden’s pardon of Hunter Biden is more notable because Democrats made it a part of their messaging that Biden wouldn’t pardon Hunter Biden. It was their moral line and Biden crossed it as soon as he had nothing left to lose. John explained it best, thankfully.
