I think the idea is to filter it out (which is also not easy) but then this gives you a way to destroy the concentrated pfas left behind. Because otherwise what are you supposed to do with the material you have filtered out? It’d be cool if regulations required the cost of destroying pfas be added to the sale of pfas which might help manufacturers decide that they don’t need to add pfas to disposable things like paper plates after all.

I could do that but I only have a couple of things in keepass so it’s easy to manage and backups are not very frequent. Bitwarden has EVERYTHING else and syncs across all my devices, if all that stuff was in keepass it would get combersome to generate backups every time I create a new entry or change a password. I could use nextcloud or something to sync the backup files but honestly this has worked well for me. I just setup keepass basically once, create a backup somewhere else, then use bitwarden for everything else.
Alternatively, plenty of people trust bitwarden completely. Honesty I’d trust bitwarden more than a self hosted solution that I’ll likely neglect and probably fail to keep up with best practices because I barely got it working in the first place, also screw ISPs that use CGNAT, it’s 2023, give me an ipv6 address already.
It’s going to come down to how much you trust the provider but I’d say bitwarden is pretty solid. I use it for stuff I’m not particularly concerned about (like disney+ or some random forum) and I use keepass for stuff that would be particularly bad if it was compromised like banking credentials, I keep backups of my keepass DB on separate physical media.
I also use a completely separate bitwarden account for all of my work accounts, keep that stuff separated, I only log into it from work devices and I never log into personal accounts from work devices.
ugh, I’m glad i’ve moved on from IT but I’ve had many arguments with ‘security managers’ about some bogus qualys findings. If the CVE is that a user could do a thing in an unexpected way, but they have permission to do the thing that is a bug not a vulnerability. IMO It’s only a vulnerability if someone that is not allowed to do something can do the forbidden thing.
I find it a bit ironic that the thing that made it easier to ditch windows completely was o365 web apps, they’re actually decent if you have to use them. Thanks microsoft.
I think the just use linux voices are getting louder because every day more things just work out of the box, it may not quite be there for everyone yet but it’s getting better every day.
yeah, it’s frustrating when they’re smug about it but I’d argue that suggesting an alternative where this issue doesn’t happen is helpful advice even if you don’t agree with it. I do agree that ‘just switch to linux’ is a gross oversimplification as there will be some growing pains and there are a few hurdles that may at present be unsurmountable. I also find it amusing that you present digging up registry hacks and fighting for control over your system for the rest of time to be easier than a modern linux installer that takes about 5 minutes to click through the gui with no command line knowledge needed. I guess the point is that you should use whatever you’re comfortable with, but if you haven’t tried linux in a while you might find it to be less of a fight than windows is becoming.

Yeah, i remember it being pretty bad and fighting with my boss at the time because they were all in with lenovo. Even after I showed them the articles about the malware they wanted us to push out lenovo’s bloat on all machines (like the stupid battery monitor) because they liked how it looked better. I got a new job shortly after.
I sure want them to try though, fight for my money!
Back in 2015 or so Lenovo was pre-installing superfish spyware on some systems. Whether this was an accident or intentional is up for interpretation. Whether 8 years is enough to earn back trust is up to you. Personally I re-image anything that’s mine because I don’t need the vendor’s bloat that just does the same things windows already does. I don’t really use windows much anyway these days for my personal machines but I’m probably not going to buy anything from Lenovo any time soon.

I had a similar issue where my SD card reader was not able to read a card with a newer standard like SDXC or whatever it was and i had to find a newer reader.
The only thing to fear from AI is bots like OP clogging up my feed with nonsense. They’re embracing AI, they can make speech more natural, generate zillions of textures for terrain or clothes or particle effects. Maybe they’ll even start to generate sounds so the hack n slash is not the exact same noise. They can even let AI create side quests or random events that don’t feel forced. I use arch btw.
I’m using the official dock and i have not had anything like that happen yet, though i’m only driving one display. There was a good article a while back about USB-C docks and funky implementation decisions that cause weird drops, like using DP to hdmi chips that overheat. Let me see if i can find it.
After seeing the one where they slam Dan’s face with a ball and you see his skull moving under his skin I realized there can be entire fields of study around insanely fast cameras. What we see in real time doesn’t even compare. Also the one where Gav shows how CRTs work is still my favorite.
