I kinda started using lemmy less lately. I shall fix that!
“…could’ve made it but it’s cozy in the rut…”

What does FUTO use? It works pretty good (based on my limited testing) and it works offline.
It’s one guy posting all of those xD
Did you maybe miss the linked article? :D
Most mobile apps can, and on desktop I found these 2 methods that I mentioned in the comments here. Maybe you find it useful.
Well I don’t use either of those platforms, I was just curious. I just shared what I observed, I guess it does sound like a complaint.
Mostly disappointed that there even is a need for such a thing.
So all 3 people on the whole bluesky who even know they can do that or give any fuck about mastodon.
So you can’t interact at all, or see bluesky comments or anything. It’s basically as if you subscribed to an RSS feed. Pretty useless no?
Never really understood the appeal of twitter-like platforms anyway.
They allegedly remove posts/comments about lemmy? And even if they don’t, I feel like it could have the opposite effect. People would see those posts just like ads/promotion/spam. Which would give lemmy a bad rep. Unless something big happens, like some big community switching to lemmy, or someone with a big following promotes lemmy, it will hardly see a big spike in user count.
The only way is to passively “advertise” it. Maybe add the link to your lemmy account in your reddits about you section, if you are making OC add your lemmy handle there as well…
And the last way, which is most likely the best way to do it, is to post good content on lemmy, keep communities alive. And people will eventually join.
What is even the point of “piracy groups”? What exactly can you find there that you cannot in other places designed for that, e.g., trackers, usenet, forums…?

But shows different numbers.
I can find it on Droidify no problem and after reading your comment, I also tried on F-droid app and I can see it there as well. Maybe you don’t have it configured properly.
So lemmy.world is still excluded from the list but the active users from it are counted in?
I was looking for a bookmark app that can sync via Syncthing too, but I had no luck finding such an app.
I think I will end up using markdown editor (notes app), specifically Markor, because it allows appending links to a file (note) through the share menu. It’s using .md files which you can easily sync via Syncthing, and then open the file on desktop with some markdown editor like Joplin.
On desktop you would have to manually copy and paste the link into the file though.
It’s probably possible to streamline that process more, but if you don’t save a lot of links it’s ok, I guess.
Yeah, and I am questioning, why is that the case. Because client apps are not doing the transcoding, server is.
It’s a really nice app, I like the fact that it uses mpv, but you cannot pick the stream quality in this app? I always avoid re-encoding (picking different stream quality from jellyfin) but I noticed that it’s missing in Findroid.
There is no good way really.
Lemmy’s search is pretty lackluster. You will have a hard time finding what you are looking for, unless you are searching for something verbatim, and if your query contains common words…Good luck. It also has no search operators.
When it comes to search engines, only google is somewhat usable (from my experience), but it’s very much hit or miss. Sometimes you will be able to find the post, just by typing lemmy [post title or part of it]
, but it will almost never be in the top results.
And most of the time , first result is Reddit…
You can try using https://fedi-search.com
It basically just uses this query for “more accurate search” [search query] (intext:"modlog" & "instances" & "docs" & "code" & "join-lemmy")
And this one for normal search [search query] (site:lemmy.world OR site:lemmy.ml OR site:lemm.ee OR site:hexbear.net OR site:sh.itjust.works OR site:lemmy.dbzer0.com OR site:feddit.de OR site:kbin.social OR site:mastodon.social OR site:mastodon.cloud OR site:mstdn.social OR site:mastodon.online OR site:mastodon.world OR site:libre.video OR site:video.antopie.org)
Which is not just for lemmy, as you can see
Here is the search query I made for the top 35 lemmy instances (by active users) based on this: https://lemmy.fediverse.observer/list
[your search query] (site:lemmy.world OR site:lemm.ee OR site:sh.itjust.works OR site:lemmy.ml OR site:hexbear.net OR site:lemmy.ca OR site:programming.dev OR site:lemmy.dbzer0.com OR site:feddit.org OR site:lemmy.blahaj.zone OR site:discuss.tchncs.de OR site:lemmygrad.ml OR site:sopuli.xyz OR site:lemmy.sdf.org OR site:lemmy.zip OR site:beehaw.org OR site:infosec.pub OR site:aussie.zone OR site:feddit.nl OR site:midwest.social OR site:feddit.uk OR site:slrpnk.net OR site:reddthat.com OR site:lemmy.one OR site:jlai.lu OR site:pawb.social OR site:lemmy.kya.moe OR site:lemmy.today OR site:startrek.website OR site:feddit.it OR site:mander.xyz OR site:ttrpg.network OR site:lemmings.world OR site:ani.social OR site:feddit.org)
In SearXNG u can use !lepo
to search lemmy posts but it’s basically just lemmy’s search.
I finally made a full switch from Sync to Thunder, because even though I know that Sync dev does take huge breaks and he comes back and fixes everything and makes the app even better, I still wanted to make sure I find a good alternative and get familiar with it just in case.
Thunder is a really good app, especially considering its age. It also has the most features and the nicest UI (IMO) among the Lemmy apps. And it being open source is a huge plus too.
Sync is still my favorite, it just feels really nice to use, but I’ll stay on Thunder for now.
Voyager is also a really nice app that feels polished and works smoothly, but it’s lacking certain features that I like. So I keep it installed as a backup but I don’t use it often.
