Biggest thing so far is “go slow on federation”. Large federated servers are where you get into trouble with resource requirements and needing to spin up workers, etc. Small, private servers are relatively easy.

For the record I can’t comment on this specific article - it may be a nothingburger. I just think Newsweek itself is not inherently problematic.
Are you thinking of NewsMax or whatever? Newsweek AFAIK is a run-of-the-mill average news source - no NYT but certainly not NY Post.
I can try to write some stuff up, it’s not super complex. Core requirement for my setup is Docker + a domain. I recommend Linux host but you can make Docker Desktop work.

I’m running a Matrix server with a FB Messenger bridge via mautrix-meta and that makes it a clear winner. Half my group chats have migrated entirely since I’ve set my close friends up with accounts in my server and they also use the bridge. The fact that people can slowly migrate chats without losing messages or groups is killer for adoption imo.
Yea I’m gonna do zfs or something when I get set up properly again. I’ve got 2 16TB HDDs and Storage Spaces won’t let me pull a drive out :v
I think I’m gonna have to make a new Storage Space and slowly grow that one and shrink the other as I basically shift the extra storage budget between the two until the data is on just one of my drives without redundancy, and then I’ll pull that drive, dual boot Ubuntu or something, format, get everything prepared, and then mount, copy, start services, and then go back and kill the old storage spaces and then never run Windows for anything meaningful again.
I need to migrate off Docker Desktop for Windows and Storage Spaces but I fear the process will be difficult due to my data volume and the stupidity of Windows. I should never have gone Windows, but I wanted to use Steam Big Picture off the media PC and didn’t want to deal with getting that functional on Linux.
But Docker Desktop for Windows keeps crashing WSL and bricking the network devices randomly, and also continuously grows memory consumption until the machine reboots. Piece of shit.

You are 1000% correct, half the continent lives in an entirely different reality. That’s why very visibly and loudly protesting and demonstrating at key. It FORCES the dissent into public view where it would otherwise be hidden.

Keep in mind he’s also making sure to publicly put the ball in Trump’s court regarding maintaining the relationship - especially obvious with his remark about “well of course they wouldn’t want to side with Russia”. Expressing optimism and openness publicly while maybe have reservations privately strikes me as a shrewd political stance.

Unfortunately a 100% accurate reflection of Canadian politics. So dumb that basically everyone other than Alberta agrees that Trudeau did some good stuff that didn’t get advertised, some dumb fuck political games that did nothing of value but also no damage, and our complete monopoly of basically every industry is cucking micro and macro economic growth and yet we’re here blaming Trudeau and not fronting any anti-monopolist parties.

100% true, and the fact that Shaw just got rolled into Rogers in the middle of anti-monopolist popular fervor is pretty depressing. The grocery industry is absolutely vile. Trudeau was acceptable and mostly made reasonable choices but my God I’d vote for anyone who forwarded stronger antitrust legislation and rulings.

Definitely! Union membership is in decline and so are wages. The boomer generation seems to think the government is the largest negative impact on our lives when it’s actually the corporate suits.
Costco’s whole thing is that they have a flat markup on all their goods. It’s static - price goes down for them, they lower their retail.
They also pay a reasonable wage - my buddy works there and is clearing 31.50/hr + voluntary OT + 6k bonus/yr. Regularly makes 80k a year, just floor staff not management/supervisor.
And they pay their upstream and logistics providers 2-3x market rates as well- my girlfriend works for a major trucking company doing pricing and Costco voluntarily overpays for their lanes so they have more reliable deliveries.
Many many companies price-gouge and underpay their employees or steal wages. Costco doesn’t. Fuck Walmart, Safeway, Amazon, etc.
