Fair point. I see that as a potential silver lining in this whole Kremlin disinformation era. At least some people will see it for what it is and learn.

Do you have Hexbear and the .ml instances blocked?

Seems like there’s basically no effort to address disinformation. I love the idea of the fediverse, but I’ve never told a single person I use it in well over a year because I’d be embarrassed if they ever visited and saw some of the content that gets upvoted here.

Most people want to block those instances, not access them.

As with many things, its complex. A couple reasons:

• Propaganda on social media uses immigration as a wedge issue to divide people. For example, the Kremlin wants to get people angry about immigration AND angry about people trying to stop immigration. “They’re coming to eat your pets” and “anti-immigrant peoppe are all hateful racists”
• The planet is overpopulated. We’re running out of land and resources, and that makes people worried and protective of their territory.

I don’t promote promote Lemmy to anyone because of all the propaganda. Lemmy.ml, Hexbear, etc

I don’t even tell people I use Lemmy, let alone recommend it, because of how much authoritarian propaganda there is on here.

I love the idea and won’t give up on it easily, and I hope other users can join me in making it a better place by calling out propaganda.
