It’s actually a US regulation which goes into effect on May 10th. Most other booking sites should be following suit with something similar over the next few weeks.

It’s because FTC regulations requiring fee-inclusive pricing go into effect on May 10th. Everyone dealing with short term rentals and hotels in the US will be updating to this over the next few weeks.

They use air pockets but they are of the stiffer variety that are fitted around each drive, not the super cheap and thin air pockets that just get jammed in to fill the box.

If I remember correctly, it comes from measuring volume coming to/from large bodies of water where surface area (acres) and depth changes (feet) are easier to measure and there is little reason to do unnecessary conversion to other, more common, units of volume for industry-specific purposes, especially if others outside the industry rarely see or care about such values.

The board is pushing against it and I’d doubt they’d move counter Apple leadership in this instance. While I don’t like the sucking up to Trump and the effective bribery of inauguration donations, outrage for this specific instance should be placed on the conservative group driving a shareholder vote rather then leadership that seems to be against it.

This isn’t coming from Tim Cook or people internally at Apple but a conservative group, I’m assuming activist investors, trying to reverse DEI programs via shareholder vote.

America has thousands of tax jurisdictions, every state, county, city/town can impose their own set of taxes. For the longest time, online shopping was effectively tax-free shopping unless you happened to be based in the same state as the seller. That is largely not the case anymore though as various states passed legislation to enforce tax collections on online sales rather than trust the consumer to volunteer that info when it’s time to fill out tax forms.

Agreed 100% but it is more complicated for online shopping in general as sales tax is largely unknown in many cases until you have billing or shipping address which is not always known upfront.

In the case of this rule though, related to events and short term lodgings, there is a pretty obvious jurisdiction in most cases so allowing a “government charges” exemption is nonsense.

There is already traction here at the state-level. It’s been the law in California since the summer and Minnesota has something similar going into force on Jan 1st.

I expect many more states to follow with their own rules if these federal rules die with the new administration. I expect some noise to be made but wouldn’t be surprised if it survives for some time to avoid more complex state-level that would be more expensive to manage.

This is a NY state criminal trial, the president can only pardon federal crimes. Doesn’t mean shenanigans can’t happen but it’s unlikely to go away the moment Trump gets into office.

Maybe they will start to realize the persistent election cycle is not a good thing. I would love to see a ban on all election campaigning until 90 days before said election but that wouldn’t get past a 1st amendment challenge.

It’s cheaper if you don’t have constant load as you are only paying for resources you are actively using. Once you have constant load, you are paying a premium for flexibility you don’t need.

For example, I did a cost estimate of porting one of our high volume, high compute services to an event-driven, serverless architecture and it would be literally millions of dollars a month vs $10,000s a month rolling our own solution with EC2 or ECS instances.

Of course, self hosting in our own data center is even cheaper, where we can buy and run new hardware that we can run for years for a fraction of the cost of even the most cost-effective cloud solutions, as long as you have the people to maintain it.

A large segment of the US population is still extremely anti-Muslim and think they are all terrorists, especially those at the center and center-right. I’ve met numerous supposed “centrist democrats” that think we should turn every Muslim country to glass.

I have, and use Calibre with LL instead and it still requires a lot of hand holding and manual grooming to get a clean library.

My big issue with Readarr is that it had a hard time fetching data for various popular and/or prolific authors. So if I wanted to fetch all the books for a particular author, there was a high likelihood it wouldn’t actually fetch the necessary book data to do so.

I prefer LazyLibrarian over Readarr but it still leaves a lot to be desired for end-user usability. One of the big issues with ebooks is that data is a mess, with each book having a billion different editions with spotty metadata support that makes it hard to tell what is what.

Goodreads seems like it was a decent source of data for these types of projects but they shut off new API access a couple years ago and legacy access can go away at any moment. Hardcover seems like a promising API alternative but not sure if anyone has started integrating with them yet. Manga and comics seem to be in a better state, with a more rabid fanbase maintaining data but still nowhere near what’s available for movies and tv.

There was most likely a closet or other crawl space storage area there. My house has closets like that but luckily full height entries to them so we can actually step in. I’ve seen other houses with 1/2 or 1/3 height doors leading to under-roof crawl spaces for storage.

Unlikely to be feasible for gaming as you will run in latency and overhead issues. If you want 60 fps, you have 16-17ms to render each frame.

At the bare minimum, you are probably going to lose a couple of ms from network latency from even the best home networking setups.

Then there is the extra overhead of maintaining state in realtime between multiple systems as well as coordinating what work each system can actually do in parallel. Full set of textures and other data will most certainly need to be on both, as having a shared memory pool across the network would be unfeasible. As a result, you will most likely have the same memory constraints, especially on the gpu, for each machine as you would just using a single machine.

I play it pretty much exclusively on my Deck and haven’t run into any performance issues that have bothered me. Patch 2 made things noticeably smoother so I expect it to get even better over time. I haven’t hit act 3 yet though and that seems to be where most people have problems in general.

Turning off FSR is a must if you don’t want a blurry mess.

Try turning off FSR in the graphics settings, it looks much better and clearer with it off.

Go to search tab in Photos and there should be a “People & Pets” section. Scroll through that till you find your dog’s bubble. Tapping that should bring up some results and an “unnamed pet” box at the bottom. Tapping that will bring up a profile of your pet, tapping the “Add Name” header will let you name your pet.
