Trans rights are under attack, maybe let someone be happy if the found something to be happy about, why can’t you let them enjoy it?

I mean cool appeal to emotion but that isn’t what we were talking about. The government is attacking the rights of people who are trans, including their passports, and pretending they aren’t isn’t helping anyone. When people were under threat from the Nazi’s in the 30’s would it have helped to tell people to just ‘let them be happy’ when the Nazi’s weren’t yet able to put them in camps?

Having traveled before with someone in that exact situation, yes, there will be harassment and TSA may very well intentionally force you miss your flight and end up waiting to fly standby on the next one. But as of now, you generally do get through, which cannot be said for traveling internationally without any passport at all.

So you were in this exact scenario, TSA prevented the person from flying like we’ve been saying, but then didn’t prevent them from flying on a standby on the next flight?

After hearing she was still issued a passport at all? Yes, actually. There are quite a few (trans) people who probably feel a little bit safer than they did yesterday when they thought they were trapped in the country.

Honestly the US is so antagonistically into ‘individualism’ I’m not sure how you’d even start to build that. Americans have been brainwashed into thinking that everyone else is right on the edge of breaking into their houses and raping their entire families; look at the entire idea of arming yourself with firearms to prevent ‘home invasions,’ and then glossing over the stats that you’re magnitudes more likely to be shot by your husband than assaulted by a stranger.

I think the ideal would be a Communal approach, where each neighbourhood works to help the people inside it, and those people reach out to help others nearby, yet I am not sure the average American will trust their neighbours enough to do this. When every branch of your government is full of capitalist fascists, who can you depend on to fix your roads, get you to the hospital, put out the fire in your home? These fascists are going to cut funding to everything the ‘middle class’ and poor rely on, and the worst part is that a lot of those people will not only vote for it, but cheer it on right up until it effects them.

I’d love to be wrong about all of this, but I’ve been watching the US for my entire life, and I was born in the early 80’s, and I just don’t see enough of you guys caring for each other. The speed with which you turn on each other is staggering; how long did it take Democratic candidates to blame ‘woke’ policies or your population who are trans for losing the election? I’ve been told my entire life your second amendment was to protect yourself and your neighbours from the Evil Government. Then Fascists take over your government, and it’s silence. I think we all knew, outside of your country, that the people most fiercely defending it just wanted to protect their hobby, but watching you allow gun violence to become the most common way for children to die broke my heart. And to then watch you not even use those weapons to protect your 2SLGBTQIA+ neighbours, to not rise up and fight back against ICE putting people in concentration camps, has removed any faith I had that just maybe you guys had something there, that maybe I just couldn’t see that you’d use it to help others.

I wish you all the best of luck, yet from here it looks like yet another oligarchy where people talk a big game about fighting for each other, only to immediately back down when it looks like you might have to put your own selves on the line. I am not here to attack people with Antisocial Personality Disorder, but it’s definitely not just ‘trusting your own judgement over society’s’, it also " is a personality disorder defined by a chronic pattern of behaviour that disregards the rights and well-being of others." The ‘societal judgment’ they’re in conflict with is often the rights and well-being of others. I have an ex with it, and they had an extremely difficult time up until their early 40’s, when they did improve a bit. We’re still not sure if that’s ASPD decreasing over time, or them getting used to dealing with it.

I say all of this as someone who lived with someone else with ASPD. The one that caused our breakup was “Aggression toward people and animals.” as they hurt me and attempted to hurt our cat in order to hurt me emotionally. This was a reaction caused by PTSD from their truly traumatic childhood, but I’d appreciate it not boiled down to some sort of Chaotic Good interpretation.

Apologies, I mentally did percentage of population, not percentage of adults/voters. The Fascists got 29% of voting-aged adults. I will say there is still a massive percentage of the population just watching this happen–voting against it is not enough. in Nazi Germany, saving children from torture was illegal. And it’s not about what people being ‘willing’ to watch others die, it’s about people standing up and being willing to die for their less powerful neighbours. I’m middle aged, male (AMAB, anyway) and white. I’ll stand between any cops, military, whatever and my fellow citizens. My grandmother (moms side) was in the Dutch resistance and was caught helping people escape the Nazi’s and spend 1941-1945 in a camp; she never fully recovered and converted to Atheism from Catholicism on her death bed, stating ‘no just God would allow what I have seen and lived through.’ My grandfather (dads side) served in the Canadian army from 1939 to 1945, and went to every country we fought in. He never slept in the same bed as my grandmother because he had screaming, wake-up-fighting nightmares from what he saw. He drove a motorcycle, delivering orders, moving supplies, etc. He was driving in a ditch beside a convoy just before dawn, for hours, and the ditch was so bumpy he had to keep slowing down because the motorcycle kept slipping. When the light broke, they were finally able to see, and he realised he was driving over the bodies of women and children from nearby villages. The ‘slipping’ was because the bodies were decaying and the motorcycle couldn’t grip, and he and his partner in the side-car took turns holding the handle bars while the other vomited over the side. They couldn’t turn around because beside the ditch was a cliff, and the convoy was bumper to bumper; they drove for six hours, at maybe 5 km/h, sobbing and vomiting. He never told me the story, he refused to talk about the war with me or my brothers, but in a drunken stupor my father told us my grandfathers war stories.

We pretend it’s somehow going to be different this time, like this time fascists can be appeased, this time they won’t invade other countries, or take away all of your rights. 30,000 people are already in camps. We all know what is coming next. You can stand aside like the German people did, watch and wring your hands, tell yourselves lies about the ‘clean Wehrmacht,’ yet everyone knows what’s happening. If we don’t stand up to them, we encourage it to happen.

The thing is you have to force them to do it illegally, brutally, while people can see it. If you give in, if you agree to things, it’s too easy for them.

Yes, many people who stand up to them will die. It’s already been allowed to get to that point. Yet if you sit back and give in, it happens so much more quickly, and much more brutally.

This is especially true if you’re white, or at least not openly a minority. If you’re a middle aged white male, make them go through you. It’s dangerous, you might not make it, so make sure you’re ready. White men standing up to them, constantly, is cognitive dissonance to them. They’ll expect you to always be on your side, and when everyone isn’t, they stumble.

If people constantly resist them at every angle they will fail. We will lose good people doing it, and we have to.

There are two ways to help fascists: Directly, and by passively following their new laws. Don’t do either.

I forget the term, but there’s an ideological theory where you only follow laws you think are moral (it’s not Moral Law, but close to that, it doesn’t need divine/etc meanings behind it). So you don’t kill people, because you feel murder is amoral, but you would ‘jay walk’, or steal from a mega-corporation. If fascists stop following laws, there’s an argument that letting them be protected by laws is going to keep them motivated to keep not following them.
