I use “Feeds”. Click on the menu, then select Feeds, and then Friends. You will still get ads, but it is much better than the default feed.
I have not seen any problems (installed via pacman). However, I only use the EQ, and save presets for different speakers/headphones. I have not tried installing any other effects. Also, there was a new release just today (7.2.0-1) that might help.
Do you have ffmpeg installed?

sudo chmod +x
Caldera (probably around 1999).

To stop the lightdm from starting, you should be able to disable it by this command:
sudo systemctl disable lightdm
If XFCE still starts automatically, then check your .bash_profile. If there is a line like:
exec startxfce4
then put a # in front of it. Once that is done, you can start XFCE any time by typing exec startxfce4 at the command line. When in XFCE, if you log out it should put you back to your command prompt.
As a long time Arch user, it’s not perfect, but it is perfect for me.
I just looked up the initial release, it was in August 2001. I don’t remember the first time I used it, but it was probably 20 years ago. Still remains my favourite for the reasons you mentioned.
