+1 for PipePipe if you want quick updates + SponsorBlock. I switched from Tubular a few days ago, and it imported my Tubular export flawlessly.
You don’t necessarily need to use Obtanium though, the version on F-Droid has a built-in updater. But unfortunately the built-in updater isn’t automatic (just a pop up notification that takes you to the .apk download page), so I can see the convenience of Obtainium.
I’m not even sure to be honest, was just following the solution that others had posted.
Pop’s site says that the --configure -a command configures any unpacked but not yet configured packages. And someone on Pop’s github theorized it was related to Microsoft adding their own apt source for VSCode. So it was probably some issue with Microsoft’s new apt source being unpacked but unconfigured, and that caused something in apt/dpkg to freak out. That’s my best guess at least.
There were lots of other peope having this issue, including myself, who have never installed Mullvad. I think it’s related to something in the Ubuntu repos. What fixed it for me was to run:
sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade
Some people were also reporting a broken install due to missing packagekit, so maybe ensure packagekit is installed with:
sudo apt install packagekit
Then reboot, and you should be able to update stuff normally now.

If I played any Rockstar games, I’d be unhappy with their new anti-cheat too, since it needlessly blocks linux, but this isn’t the way this should be protested. If anything, this probably validates their decision.
The way this should be protested is to just stop playing. Stop giving them money. Stop boosting their month active user numbers that they can flaunt to investors. Hit them financially, since it’s the only hit they really care about. There’s a sea of other high-quality games you can play instead.
These don’t exactly “fit in” with the rest of the list, but on Deck I’ve personally had a blast with CarX Drift Racing Online and the Sonic &ASRT Collection
I specifically bought a Pixel 5a because it was the last Pixel with a headphone jack. Then after a year, it died on me, and they sent me a 6a as a replacement.
I miss the jack. A lot. But it’s hard to justify buying a whole new phone for one. Once this one dies, I don’t know what I’ll do.

Note that the title has been edited: we do NOT know if this was EAC yet. The article says it “may have been.” EAC has claimed it wasn’t them (but of course they’re going to claim that). Instead, it could have been Apex’s source engine. Or, it could have been two individually compromised machines from software completely unrelated to Apex; remember, these are two high-profile targets, after all. We just have to wait and see what the real cause was. Regardless, I wouldn’t play Apex for at least the next day or two, just to be safe.
There isn’t much sandboxing in Wine, but at least on linux, the AC is forced to run in userspace (instead of having root privileges). So it’s not quite as invasive, but it still has access to everything your non-root account has access to. Which is still a lot. Probably not much better from a privacy perspective, but at least a little better from a security perspective.

It also has an option to filter the search by year(s) and by number of ratings/followers, so you could select the current and/or previous year to see what has been trending well-received and popular in the (relatively) short-term.
You could probably play the SCS Truck Simulator games basically indefinitely.
Vampire Survivors is an absurdly addicting Deck game, and can be considered grindy if you go for the eggs late-game.
Deep Rock Galactic is a good one too, if you’re okay with no aim assist and playing solo or with randoms.
If you need Android Auto, the closest thing you’ll get is LineageOS with some sort of GApps, but those are far from the “privacy and security first” goals of GrapheneOS.
If you are looking for something private/“FOSS-focused” and don’t need Android Auto, I like CalyxOS a lot, and have heard good things about DivestOS.
Yes, a lot of games work fine without precompiled shaders. Others, like Apex Legends or Rocket League, are a complete mess (at least for the first few minutes of gameplay - it used to be much worse but DXVK 2.0 helped a lot with this). You’ve probably just only tried the games that work fine.
“Having to deal with pre-shader work” that you mentioned is a good thing. Without it, games will stutter more. And you always have the option to skip it or disable it entirely.
But otherwise, it’s a classic delimma:

Oculus does not work, but that’s expected for a Facebook product… Valve Index and HTC Vive work pretty good. I’ve personally played 5-10 VR games on linux with an Index I borrowed from a friend
Through proton, yes. The game has always worked with anti-cheat disabled (so no PvP multiplayer), but proton-compatible anti-cheat has been supported since early April, so all multiplayer functionality has worked since then.
This article is referring to a recent MCC patch that broke proton anti-cheat for about a week, thankfully it’s fixed now.
