What’s ironic is that more foreign owned brands have production plants in the US than US brands at this point. Nissan Toyota and Honda all have US plants. GM Ford and Chrysler all have plants primarily in Canada and Mexico.

Forums are where I learned literally everything about technology I know now. Every hack, jailbreak, method of bypassing something, building, literally anything I’ve done around my tech hobbies. Pi hole, emulation in the late 90s, how to use Photoshop, how to run Linux from a USB, everything I’ve learned from forums. I’m sad to think that me joining certain discords help deliver the death knell to the concept of forums.
Well that’s a bit of a cold outlook.
Apparently he was always a creep.
Watergate was a really big deal. By all accounts, it still technically is. It’s pretty blatant corruption and was cartoonishly executed. That said, what’s happening now is under the guise of “making America greater.”
The players are equally cartoonish goons (Anthony Scaramucci? Guilliani? Steve Bannon? His entire administration was toon town) but Trump is slimier than Nixon and is great at getting people to do his bidding for access. The deluge of news and control of the narrative they have has greatly played into their hand. They figured out how to rig the modern media machine. Nixon could never have done that.
A lot of people are mad. A lot of people are tired. A lot of people have lost hope. A lot of people feel betrayed. A lot of people see no path for change. A lot of people want to just be left alone.
To me that’s what this is really about. I’m so tired of having to be so actively(or passively) involved with politics and have the “party” I support constantly drop the ball. It’s so incredibly exhausting putting this much mental wherewithal into people and ideas that are just tossed aside.
I feel like everything is turning to shit so fast and “this is what people wanted” cause they supposedly voted for him; but I feel like the time to really rally and strike isn’t here yet.
It still feels like everyone is getting their bearings and figuring it out. You can see people are starting to plan. It’s clear we can’t just REACT. There needs to be clear plans and action to stop this and prevent it from happening again.
I think a lot of people are very angry, but we need to focus and formulate a proper way to retaliate.
I’d argue they’re “less worse” but the fact remains that no one becomes a billionaire without exploitation. Bill Gates owned a monopoly and I’m honestly not sure what Mark Cuban did. At some point and time you must exploit a system and it’s people to amass that much wealth.
Curious how many people who downvoted my initial comment have ever worked in NYC and had to deal with either driving or taking public transit.
I know the point is to raise funds to improve it, but based on my city’s track record , they don’t ever divest it into things that make a difference in the public transit. Instead they do things like: embezzle (Adam’s is indicted btw) or add more cops, or change the turnstiles, but they don’t fix the issues with our systems.
They’re still filthy and run like ass and they JUST raised priced for the 3rd time in 5 years.
I actually support the idea of people driving less in cities and getting the cars out of manhattan for the most part, I just know how poorly this city is run currently and how badly this will go.
Congestion pricing only makes sense if they do something to mitigate the lack of public transit availability, punctuality, and affordability. If public transit were cheap and ubiquitous, then go right ahead.
Instead, busses and subways cost more and still smell like piss and now you get congestions pricing if you drive in.
Only big corporations who either kiss the ring or generate a ton of money and lobby like he’ll will be exempt.
The goal of republicans is to watch out for their clan and get their beak wet doing it. If some republican lawmaker or trump can make money off this they will.
Seeing all the cats made me realize that we need to all participate to make the community what we want it to be. It’s clear to me there are a lot of lurkers based on the influx of cat pictures. The more we start posting in ANY instance the more visibility there will be for active users.
I really don’t see any value in AI art. AI pictures look like slop, AI music sounds soulless, AI writing I guess can be fine but usually sounds weird.
I just don’t see the value in AI because to me, every use case scenario for anything artistic is justified with a capitalist excuse.
I’ll give you the organizational ones, that’s understandable and not a bad reason. I suppose I have trouble getting behind taking the soul out of creating something just to slap it on an ad or product to sell something.
I’m still really struggling to see an actual formidable use case for AI outside of computation and aiding in scientific research. Stop being lazy and write stuff. Why are we trying to give up everything that makes us human by offloading it to a machine?
I think people need to stop asking why didn’t people vote for Harris and as why DID people vote for Trump.
I think everyone on the whole, is completely underestimating the completely apathetic to politics voter. There is a TREMENDOUS section of the population that would sway from Trump if they felt energized to do so. Kamala was not it. Her policies were not it. Her stance alone on Gaza was not enough (but should not be dismissed).
People voted for trump because they: are a huge supporter, or they felt they had a fatter wallet during his administration. They feel burned by Biden and Kamala is more of the same. Democrats have no one to blame but themselves.
Biden shouldn’t have even run, no one wanted it. He even said he’d be a transitional president. Then he backed out and Democrats held no primary. Why would any apathetic voter (especially the ones who were unaware Biden dropped out, check google trends) vote for the guy who made their bank accounts smaller if that’s all they care about?
I voted for Harris but not without reservations. The democrats do nothing to resonate with the left, and continue to distance themselves from leftist policies, which were popular on ballot measures this election.
I love the double standard. Trump can say “arrest all the radical left” and “LOCK HER UP” but if a democrat grows a backbone and says it back it’s “THEY’RE BEING MEAN!!! YOU CAN’T SAY THAT!”
Easy: they like money. The entire ideology behind Trump is “he’s rich and I can be rich like him too!” All the VC guys know they can manipulate him with very little money (for them) and get to keep/make more for themselves. He’s only a true friend to the wealthy.
Sam Altman always rubbed me the wrong way. He always seemed like he was trying to be the “humble” Steve Jobs - just as tyrannical and stubborn, but he was doing it “to better humanity” with AI. I call bullshit, he’s just another tech billionaire asshole.
With all these billionaires popping up how do we keep forgetting that the guillotine exists?
I bought puts, but at this rate, the company will be bankrupt before the contract expires in January.
So with just a little bit of research: You’re right. However, 3 of Fords most popular models are in fact produced in Canada. This begs the question though: do these tariffs apply to production or simply “company country of origin?”
