Honestly the vegan Yoga Retreat idea could be really cool. If I had a bunch of plans I would do a commune, although I’d rather do an Urban ecocommune personally but you have enough land to get some serious permaculture done. What sort of climate do you have?
I haven’t really messed around if the intricacies of computer networking but the only downside I personally encountered to use an IPv6 is that it’s a bit harder to memorize the IP addresses but I usually copy paste those anyways so it doesn’t matter. People use names for stuff anyways so why use bare ips?
The fact that people still try to do bullshit like Nat on IPv6 is completely crazy. It’s like they’ve never heard of the idea of a stateful firewall and just want to recreate bad old patterns again, combine with the fact that many internet service providers still don’t allow you to host anything from your home connection. We need to fix all of that of an IPv6 first Network. Ipv4 is several layers of exhausted by now so it should be considered deprecated but for some reason isn’t
That is indeed the case. I’m not sure how well it works on day one but it is in principle doable and making micro blogs news aggregators and blogs work well together is something we can and should work on
Reading about NAT Traversal and all that nonsense makes me want to start out my own ISP and we just configure things to be good because the corporate assholes clearly haven’t. This is true. I like being able to talk to people on the internet down hopefully make a friend somewhere along the way. The fact that this is still hard is something we really need to work on. I’ve just never really felt the need for a personal website, I’m not into blogging or I can probably already have one. I just don’t write enough of that level of substance to build myself a Blog of any sort and I’m not really interested in the attention that publishing seems to imply. I like things a bit more casual.
IRC has always been kinda clunky. I’ve never been able to get into using it and it’s always a pain when I find myself having to. Thankfully chat infrastructure is advancing but it’s been a step by step process. Making E2EE work right is still not smooth or a guaranteed feature

Relay nodes are safe, exit nodes require special care. There’s a guide of you’re interested. You basically need a dedicated server with a understanding hosting provider and you will be contacted by law enforcement sooner or later. They usually go away after they learn it’s a dead end

Seriously. For a federation protocol it’s completely busted. For the number of users they have it should be way way more common already but it’s just not because they built it bad. They aren’t making any serious technological innovations, I tend to view their Federation is just a marketing point because it doesn’t seem to function anyway like that in practice. You can self host an activity pub-based service and it just works, you can do it on a $5 VPS and it just works fine no problem
Twitter, the inventor of the hashtag, seems to have softly destroyed it by way of the promoting anyone who uses them because I guess they’re not good for advertisers or something? All the bad assumptions get carried over that we’re going to have to slowly work our way through. I’m not going to place any High Hopes on Blue Sky because I know I’ll just be disappointed but we can Implement basic features and make them not blow just fine and then leave them in the dust
If you do a permaculture Arrangements you can really diversify while you wait for the trees to grow up, although by then they might be more valuable alive than dead especially if you pick the species to benefit the whole permaculture system
